Well, after 2 years of planning and wondering what it would be like, we're finally here and have spent our first 3 weeks in Calgary. 28 boxes sent over from UK via James Cargo in Manchester and delivered to our door for 750 quid - all arrived and all intact! SIN number done, driving licence swapped and new bed arrived today! Immigration and customs was a breeze - makes you wish you hadn't fretted so much over those goods to follow forms! Getting a car is proving to be a pain in the arse though. I've had loads of info and advice from this forum, so if I can help ayone else with anything having done it now I'd be glad to. I'm off to hire a car for ANOTHER week!!!!

as that sounds a good price......The biggest was a wardrobe box with a few tea chests and smaller boxes as well as a couple of big pictures that we made our own boxes for. We measued it at around 2 cubic metres and weighed it all on our bathroom scales at 510kg. That's how it was priced up. 750 quid to be delivered to our door here in Calgary. We had to drop it all off at a depot in Warrington and that was it.

Congrats. We just went through all this 5 weeks ago so know what you've gone through.
We were the only people in immigration and customs at Toronto...apart from the tumbleweed. 30 minutes and we were through.
Can't say the car caused us problems though as we hired for two weeks and then bought a Dodge caravan at a local second-hand dealership. Insurance was high but not astronomical (tip: get DVLA transcripts and letters from UK insurers as we got 3 years no claims on our Canadian insurance by doing this) and the vehicle insurance is only $75 with no MOT: only emissions ($35). Now own a 3.3l V6 that has less power than my old 1.6l Megane!!!
Good luck with the following weeks and months. We're now on the job trail.
