Re: Family trucking thinking of moving to Canada. Help needed
Hi all,
Im an english trucker with a fiancee and two kids, thinking about moving to canada to live and work. Im in the early stages of researching the move and weighing up the pros and cons. Any advice will be very helpful and will all come in handy. Which ways are best to gain visas, where is best to live for our kids (age 4 and 5) in terms of schools and areas of plentyful hgv class 1 jobs.

Alberta is the best State to research - they are crying out for Class 1 drivers. You will need to take your Canadian Truck Licence - about $2000 and then most companies who sponsor foreign workers will put you on a training program but you will start earning from then. Money is good but cost of living is much higher than the UK. Look at areas like Edmonton, Sascatchwan and surrounding cities.

Generally on this board the cost of living in Canada is thought to be about the same as in the UK with the exception of housing, the cost of which varies somewhat around the UK and massively between different parts of Canada.
