Do they really just help themselves to the contents of your fridge? Mental note to self, make sure fridge is well stocked at all times when we get to Canada, just in case!
If a Canadian looked in my fridge now he would be very dissapointed, bit of the old Mother Hubbards going on in our house at the moment

It's all relative though innit? In Whitby there's likely just the chain stores, Loblaw's, Sobey's, Metro, Costco, they don't offer much choice compared to, say, the St. Lawrence Market. Just yesterday I toured the local chain stores in search of mussels, oysters and a chunk of Parmesan, none of which were available. At the market you can always get those things.
Sobeys and Superstore here have well stocked fresh fish departments. Both have loads of cheeses, especially Sobeys. Even the smaller Co-Op store has many different types.

They have nothing like the choice each of the competing cheesemongers at the market has. Similarly, half a dozen competing fishmongers under one roof inevitably offer a better choice than a combination of two chain stores.
I shop at several Loblaw's stores and accept that they offer a reasonable variety for a supermarket but it's highly tailored to the ethnicity of the neighbourhood. No doubt you can get salt cod in your local Superstore but can you get ackee?

The actual move has measured up great for us - we love our life in Windy Lethbridge What took me by surprise the most is how people I knew via cyber space turned out to be not the friends I thought I had made shame really maybe people should try and live much more in peace and harmony

If it is ungrated parmesan you want, try Costco - I buy it from there. In HUGE chunks that last me ages.
But I do agree that the farmers market has a better selection of unusual cheese. I was very disappointed by their Wenslydale though - it was wet and soggy and not crumbly at all like "proper" Wenslydale should be

Maybe it doesn't compare favourably to what one could get in London where, I remember, once upon a time 7up was available before it arrived in Bristol.
