Danny they were expected to raise rates...so it won't!!
However, they said they may need to make another modest rise to counter inflation worries..no expected. Market was pricing in a lot more rises, therefore a little bit of bad news from Bank of England now and all of us waiting to change up funds will be a lot happier. Chris am i the first poster to mention christmas.:D |
Re: Exchange rate
Well, this one is talking about 5.25% early next year:
http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2007/0...edecision.html Personally, with the rapidly rising oil price and the chaos that's beginning to appear in the debt markets I suspect rates are going to go up faster and much higher than most people expect. |

i've seen this posted before mark, but thought that a rise in oil prices would be good for those changing £ to $, is this not correct?, i'm confused.
But the bigger point is that the inflation in oil is pushing up inflation everywhere and that's going to push up interest rates. |

That's one of the reasons why the Canadian dollar has been rising so much; both the pound and the Canadian dollar are pushed up by oil price rises, but it seems to affect the Canadian dollar more than the pound.

Re: Exchange rate
$2.148 on XE!! Things maybe looking up! :)
|
Re: Exchange rate
Yeah, think I might actually move some today, hovering around the 2.15 mark.
More rubbish news from the US economy ($2.03 to the pound!) seems to be hitting the loonie a bit. |
Re: Exchange rate
My husband is also avidly watching the rates on the internet and he is also thinking we may move it today - in which case I will be trailing over to our bank branch in Burnley on Friday with all the paperwork to transfer it!

Re: Exchange rate
Can we do a collective prayer session and all push it up together.
Am I being greedy by asking for 2.3 by September. |
Re: Exchange rate
I have now transferred the lot as I couldn't stand it anymore. I got $2.1450 which is 20c less than when this thread was started, but 4c more than right now so can't complain too much. What's $30k between friends :(
I am going to remove all my internet favourites relating to currency exchange and never ever check the rate again. I hope it all works for you in the end, the broker I spoke to seemed to think the Canadian economy was on a roll (I bet he just wanted his commission but he scared me) so I crumpled. |

yeah right, thats like saying you are off ice cream, beer and sex, not necessarily in that order but preferably all together. you'll crack mate, just a matter of time. especially if your missus is anything like mine, who having bought something then goes into the sales to check the reduction and moans??
glad to hear you got 2.14 though, did he mention how long it may stay around this level Well actually I just checked www.xe.com and it's 2.12 at the mo but he did say he's expecting it to go back to about $2.08 until the next BOE rate rise in August/September, the reason for this is the CAD $ is so strong at the moment people are still investing in the Loonie quite heavily. If it does go back up to $2.30 you will find me hanging from a bridge somewhere in Kamloops ;) |

Sorry are you talking about exchange rates? I have no idea what you are talking about. Never heard of them...you are asking the wrong person.
