So this is all good news for those of us moving money from the UK to CA, but why? Has anyone seen any articles to explain it?

It's really hit my UK DSS pension which I have been recieving since 1995 (and still the same amount in pounds). In those years it's been as high as 2.25 but has never gone back to the $3/pound when we came in 1963.

Best I've seen for actual trading while watching a couple of sites I'm set-up on is 1.8899, anyone actually seen it at 1.9 in the wild?

hobess you should have seen 1.90 in the wild all day today and most of yesterday, the market almost reached 1.93 this morning, even though it dropped backa bit throughout the day today, you should be able to get above 1.90 at the moment

Re: Exchange rate

I just signed up to the OANDA system too as it had a rate on the front page of 1.9134, best I've seen out there with only £15 commision.

Edited - as I've now been able to get a quote on there system and it does match the quote on this page - http://fxglobaltransfer.oanda.com/. This system however does not allow for a future transaction.

Right now I usually look at Currencies Direct and Xetrade as I can easily see a rate that I know could be traded.

Crowne Currency Exchange are the best I know of. Use them all the time. I'd never go to a high street place.

With regard to the GBP, my feeling is that it will go lower eventually. This house price dead cat bounce won't last beyond the summer, and then the realisation that our economy is saddled with debt for a generation will kill the pound off. We may even see a 1970s style run.

Re: Exchange rate

well the exchange actually tweaked the nipple of $1.93 yesterday.... and then UK gov admitted that economic figures for the first quarter this year were worse than forecast.:frown:

and things went south.

of course today, the conservatives have been all over Brown et al about this, stirring up profound lacks of confidence and thus things fell ever further to less than $1.89 briefly this morning.

hopefully the Tories will do / inspire something to create confidence over here, whilst something less than positive will afflict Harper in the next few weeks.:fingerscrossed:

we may just tip the toonie, but really, i think that the $1.92 eight month high was as good as it was ever gonna be for a while....

I'd agree with you except for the complete lack of logic that markets are following at the moment. The FTSE, DOW, £, property, Oil, all well higher than they should be given the fundamentals. But as Keynes said, 'markets can remian irrational for longer than men can stay liquid' or something like that.
