Default Excess baggage

Hi
Anybody know a cheap way to send "excess baggage" to Canada? We're moving over on 25th August to Nova Scotia and seem to still have loads of bits. There's no way it will be within our allowance (container already gone) so was wondering whether there was a cheap, even if very slow, way of sending some last minute bits which won't break the bank (thinking two large suitcases approx)

Thanks

We arrived here in Calgary 3 months ago and we were way over our allowance as well. It was going to cost us 450 pounds for excess luggage, however it was just over 500 to upgrade to premium economy and you get an extra 10kg of luggage with that upgrade. I am so glad we did as the service was better and the seats were way more comfortable.

Well we know the staff at Canadian Affair and when OH left last week he got an upgrade to Premium and no charge for excess baggage. So I might get the same treatment but I might not. Can't take the chance though as no plans to pay huge amounts to take excessive amounts of towels and bits which seems to be what I have been left with!!!! There must be a way of sending some stuff over even very slowly without breaking the bank....

Very helpful. I shall investigate that one further although we're flying Thomas Cook not Air Transat unfortunately.
Saying that DHL quoted £69 for 30 kgs so thats similar.
Thanks

You should call Thomas Cook Airlines Cargo Team...... 0161 498 4731 You just give them your flight details......Sometimes they ask which type of aircraft you are flying on which you can get by calling Canadian Affair.

Hi

I would go into the post office and ask what they can do. I sent a package to America (and yes I know it's not Canada but that's irrelevant) and because I was prepared to ship it it only cost me £3.... it took 5 weeks to arrive but I wasn't in a hurry.

Just for a point of reference Im going through an Irish company called AA Economy Freight. We're paying 350 euro for a cubic metre. 10 medium boxes takes up around half a cubic metre. Once they pallet it up and wrap it will be 0.7. They're even picking them up for 65 euro. 40 euro odd a box isnt bad.

Hi, I've done a bit of research and am using an excess baggage company called sendmybag.com and for a 20kg suitcase, it's £93.99 or for 30 kg it's £118.99. They come to your house and collect it, fly it to Calgary (which is where I'm going to) and bring to my new address. It takes 4-5 working days. Much cheaper than excess baggage at the airport.

You need to give them a couple days notice for collection.

Cheers, Cindy

I posted a really small box with photos in it from England to Canada (BC) and it cost me over 80 quid.......It was only about 60cm x 30cm x 10cm.........It depends on the weight too, and it took 2 months to get there.......I dont think its worth going to the post office. There are so many companies that are cheaper. For around 800 quid I sent 30 boxes all 30kg or less, door to door including insurance. This was with www.excessbaggage.com The customer service was brilliant too. This came on land though and took 2 months also.........Just depends how desperate you are for the stuff.

Hi hun, we were thinking of doing this as well, so will be interested to see what you do and how much it costs. I'm sure that alot of the companies that do the containers also do excess baggage so I may get a quote in the next few months for both.

Also thanks to everybody else for their ideas, I shall look into them.

I read on the Air Transat site that club class gets you 40kg hold luggage and 15kg hand. Does anyone know if that's true? I saw it when you search for flights and click the club class option, but I haven't seen people mention that on here before. I'll be flying out in September and will definitely have excess baggage (I'm not shipping anything across). I'm going to call Air Transat/Canadian Affair soon to confirm, but wondered if anybody here knew. I haven't seen anything like that at the airport either when I've flown (many) times before!

I have used these guys twice, to and from canada, both times they were fine, stuff (all our possessions) took a week to make the trip, no damage - their supplied boxes are pretty tough!
