Re: Exactly How Bad is it?
Thanks for all your replys it helps heaps. Any other ideas are all welcome..
I am hoping to have a chat with our IRD commissioner here in NZ as he is Canadian How lucky is that
I work in the corrections feild as well as my job as Tax Officer takes me round to prisons and Law Offices educating and sorting out peoples taxes. I am hoping that this appeals as well as networking is all I seem to do
To be honest I dont want to go back into the Govt sector but would take anything in the clerical field as long as it is a job Im not coming over to be fussy.

I don't suppose you work within this industry at all please? I'm seeking employment but I haven't seen too many of these opportunities advertised.
Cheers

Do you have financial experience? Are you already in Canada? If so what work area do you specialise in? I ask as I have a contact that is recruiting in the financial area for business analyst/project manager type roles that want both IT and financial experience.

Thanks for coming back to me.
I have nine years commercial credit analysis and relationship management experience, my speciality is in equipment finance and leasing. I arrive in October (Toronto but definitely flexible!) and I have been actively monitoring workopolis/job bank/craigslist & kijiji for jobs within the financial services area however, they seem to be lacking.
I'll be arriving on an unrestricted and renewable two year working holiday permit.

Agree with all of the comments with this.
I dont think its that bad, although I am talking of 4 years ago, when I was there. Being an engineer, I too was rather afraid, after hearing the usual horror stories of Phd professors flipping burgers in McDonalds!
But I applied and within 8 weeks, I landed a superb job, in my own field too.
The job market is rather different tho -- it relies a lot on that famous word -- networking! And you have to be adaptable, too, like taking anything reasonable that comes your way initially.
Mind you, its heading that way in England now too....

There are still jobs here but could just take a bit of time. I just landed a job and been here 3 months as a PR. I got it through applying online. I started to apply to jobs directly through employers rather then agencies. But I guess it also depends on your field, I work in training and development. I found Monster. ca and Workopolis good. However I found some other useful engines which often picked up jobs that are not even on the job sites such as simplyhired.ca, wowjobs.ca and www.eluta.ca.
