Default Equivalency of qualifications

I've been reading the wiki article on equivalency of qualifications. It says 'In many cases, four-year British university degrees are recognized in Canada. Three-year degrees from the UK enjoy varying levels of acceptance. A Canadian employer often is satisfied with a three-year degree, but a Canadian university may not accept it as a basis for entering a master's degree program.'

Does anyone know what the case is if you've done a part-time degree while working at the same time? Mine is with the Open University and by the time I finish mine it will have taken eight years, but will be the equivalent of three years full time study. I'm not interested in going onto a master's degree program; I more mean for the sake of putting it on the application.

Also, on the same subject, my husband is MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) qualified. I don't suppose anyone knows if this is recognised in Canada?

Thanks!

My Open University degrees were accepted.

A degree has 360 cats points which is equivalent to three years' full-time study. (120 points per year or in OU terms 2 x 60 point courses per year).

An honours degree with the OU has the same number of CATS points - 360 -but 120 points have to be at 3rd level.

So an OU first degree is worth three years' of full-time study, irrespective of whether you do ordinary or Honours.

Hope this information helps.

Both my MCSE and degree were accepted over here on various applications.

I don't know about other provinces, but Alberta has the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) which assesses the equivalency of qualifications obtained overseas.

Here's their website: http://employment.alberta.ca/cps/rde....xsl/4512.html

Thank you, that's all really useful to know ... and reassuring to hear of someone MCSE qualified who managed it too :-)

I see you're based in Vancouver ... did you move there because that's where you found most demand for your job? Did you find there were many jobs out there for you?
Thanks for your help!

Nah, moved here because I love the place (prior exposure); working out a career was secondary but that seems to have worked out just fine too!
