Equivalency of qualifications
I've been reading the wiki article on equivalency of qualifications. It says 'In many cases, four-year British university degrees are recognized in Canada. Three-year degrees from the UK enjoy varying levels of acceptance. A Canadian employer often is satisfied with a three-year degree, but a Canadian university may not accept it as a basis for entering a master's degree program.'
Does anyone know what the case is if you've done a part-time degree while working at the same time? Mine is with the Open University and by the time I finish mine it will have taken eight years, but will be the equivalent of three years full time study. I'm not interested in going onto a master's degree program; I more mean for the sake of putting it on the application. Also, on the same subject, my husband is MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) qualified. I don't suppose anyone knows if this is recognised in Canada? Thanks! |
Re: Equivalency of qualifications
My Open University degrees were accepted.
A degree has 360 cats points which is equivalent to three years' full-time study. (120 points per year or in OU terms 2 x 60 point courses per year). An honours degree with the OU has the same number of CATS points - 360 -but 120 points have to be at 3rd level. So an OU first degree is worth three years' of full-time study, irrespective of whether you do ordinary or Honours. Hope this information helps. |

Re: Equivalency of qualifications
Both my MCSE and degree were accepted over here on various applications.
What wasn't (at a technical college) was my ability to speeka de Eeenglish, but that's another story. :) |
Re: Equivalency of qualifications
I don't know about other provinces, but Alberta has the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) which assesses the equivalency of qualifications obtained overseas.
Here's their website: http://employment.alberta.ca/cps/rde....xsl/4512.html |

did you move there because that's where you found most demand for your job? Did you find there were many jobs out there for you? :) |

Nah, moved here because I love the place (prior exposure); working out a career was secondary but that seems to have worked out just fine too!
:) Thanks :-) |
