Engagement Q&A
My long term boyfriend and I plan to be married in the near future, following engagement what would be the best route as to applying for him to live here with me in Ontario, Canada. I am a Canadian citizen , he being American. Should we be married before we apply? If yes, where should be be married in the US or CAN? The main focus is on getting him legally working here as he has a leased vehicle to pay for in American funds so I would not be able to support him myself and pay his lease during a lengthly application time period.

Re: Engagement Q&A
Processing of residence papers is generally quicker when the applicant is married.
You should sponsor him in any case now, to get things started. It does not matter
whether you marry in Canada or the USA. Jim Humphries

I know that it differs between locations, but generally how long would that process take ( application ) Before he was granted citizenship or residence?

Re: Engagement Q&A
Applications made outside Canada should take about 6 months for spouses. Jim
