Hi All
Does any one know of anyone working in Canada that is a Electrical Generator Service Technician? I work for a UK company, Aggreko, who I am trying to get a transfer to Canada with. I and my family have a permanent residency cards for Canada which I obtained a few years ago. They expire in Sept 2014 so I hope I can have them extended once I am there working.
So it would be great to know what salary the above position obtains in Fort McMurray/ Alberta and Toronto these are the areas I will be offered to chose from.
Thing is they don't like to mention what salary I will get until I fully commit myself.
Hope some one can help
Ken

No idea on your questions, but just wanted to make sure you weren't relying on the date on your card!

To furfill permanent residency requirements you have to have lived in Canada for 2 out of 5 years. When you try to renew your PR card you have to list the dates of when you were in Canada if you have not been in Canada for 2 out of 5 years they can cut you off so to speak so this is the first step (to ensure you have enough time in your belt).
In regards to your occupation, is it major generators (hydro) or minor (back up generators for a hospital)?

As you are already PRs providing you meet the 730 day residency obligation
then you can apply for any job. Im assuming the transfer you are talking about is not going to be an Intra Co Transferee as you wouldnt qualify.
When did you land and how long have you spent in Canada within the last 5 years?

Hi There
I have not spent anytime in Canada so far thats why I am worried. My transfer to Canada will be from Aggreko UK to Aggreko Canada. The expiry date on the card is 5th Aug 2014 (sorry I put September before).

As asked previously here and elsewhere, when did you complete your landing to activate your residency status ?

Im guessing he didn't activate his COPR forms so they will now have expired and wont be able to land as a PR.
Cancel that LOL. Probably would have landed in Jul 2009 so would now not meet the 730 day residency obligation.

So here is the Coles version.
Legally you are still a PR but you have not and cannot meet the residency obligation. If entering Canada and this comes to light then CBSA will deal with you either by reporting you under section 44(1) of the act for failing to meet the residency obligation and issue you with a removal order which can be appealed within 37 days. You could also volunteer to relinquish your PR status as you cant meet it. This will mean coming in as a PR but if no appeal submitted even with this option after 37 days then you lose the PR status.

Sounds like you've lost your PR status then if you landed in 2009 and haven't spent any time in Canada since - as stated above you need to have spent at least 2 years out of the 5 year period (so 2009-2014) since landing in Canada.
