Default EFT payment UK to Canada

Has anyone had any money transferred from a UK building society (alliance + leicester) to a bank in Canada (national bank of canada)?

My mum has sent some money to my bank account from her building society account. Apparantly they`re running a special offer to send any amount abroad.

The building society seemed a bit confused, they were asking my mum to ask me for the nine digit transit number. My bank only has a five digit transit number, so I gave her that. Perhaps they were confusing with US banks.

It`s supposed to take 3 to 5 days, is this about right?

Try asking your bank for the IBAN number - pretty sure this is what the bank in the UK needs to complete the transfer.
