Of course they should and they do!

Really, what do you think their role is? They are there to serve the needs of Brits abroad.

I just checked and here is what the Brits say on their website

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Most British Citizen passport holders do not need a visa to visit the US for pleasure, on certain types of business, or in transit if they intend to stay in the US for less than 90 days and as long as they have a Machine Readable Passport. This is called the Visa Waiver Programme, and more information on this is available on the US Embassy website (details at the end of this section). The requirement to have a machine readable passport was introduced on 26 October 2004.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible to travel to the USA without a visa, the following Questions and Answers may be helpful.

Hi there,

If I'm staying in Canada as a tourist for around 3 months, can I enter the USA (obviously for less than 90 days) as many times as I wish? I guess I'll have to show my return ticket for the trip to USA and perhaps also the return ticket from Canada?

Also, if while in Canada with a return ticket for 3 months I decide to extend my stay for longer (I presume I can buy one way ticket from Canada to UK within Canada ), should I inform anybody? I've heard that you can stay up to 6 monts as a tourist, but if you told the customs official that you wanted to stay 3 months and later change your mind, will you have to tell anybody?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

If they've given you a full 90 day admission, I don't see why not. Mr B usually keeps his I-94 until it expires and makes several trips on it.

If you get a date stamped in your passport, then you must leave by that date. Otherwise, if no date, you're admitted for 6mths and can stay until then.

Thanks a lot Biiiiink. Right now I have nothing since I'm in UK planing to buy a plane ticket to Canada to stay there as a tourist for around 90 days. Once in Canada I'd also like to enter USA as a tourist. If I cross the border by plane or by coach, as far as I buy a return ticket and I keep my passport, will I have to inform anyone? Sorry if I sound confused, but I don't understand who should give me the 90 day admission.

I guess if I have a return ticket, the return date is stamped in my passport at my arrival at Canada? If I later while in Canada I want to extend my stay, do you know who should I contact?
