Welcome to British Expats Have you found our new trucking subforum? ---> http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=118 - not sure if there are any other Yanke drivers, but I think there a few based in Winnipeg. And a few Winnipegers in the main forum too (even a Pompey one I think - have you met Grah? ).

It would be fantastic if you could put some of your experiences on the Trucking section of this forum.

Hi and Welcoome to BE, I watched a program on Winnipeg the other night on Sky Tv and it looked lovely.

We are going to Regina in SK, another Province over looked.

Enjoy your time on the forum.

Hi everyone, we're new to this but very motivated to make the move. We've done lots of research and spoken to lots of people and now find ourselves a bit confused! I'm a trucker, have been driving for over 20 years and am looking to move anywhere really but ideally Canada. My preference would be shorthaul, home every night if poss, does anyone know if that's possible? I contacted Yanke but they could only offer me longhaul!
Any help anyone can give us would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Hi Ray and Sal,

Have you visited the "Trucking" section of this forum? There is a thread calles "RJ Hoffman" - that should be an intresting read for you. You will also find aload more info on trucking in Canada.

If you need any help, just give me a shout.

Sorry have no idea what channel it was on and for this you can blame my husband- as he can fit in about 40 different pieces of Sky programmes in the space of 30mins and I am never sure which channel it is actually on
There is actually another small clip on Winnipeg in the www.mymuchmor.com Canada relocation site.

I'm not sure if you have to be a member to view it or not though - but it is worth a try.

Hi, my OH is just doing his orientation with Yanke in Saskatoon - he hopes to be out on the road for his mentored trip next week.

We will be based in Regina once we find somewhere to live

Hi Guys, I have an e mail from Yanke about pay and conditions. It says that I'd be on $126 a day while training, which is OK for a month or so. But then it goes on to tell me that I'd have to be a team driver for 2 years, away 10-12 days on 22 cents a mile. I'm not Einstein, but I can work out that I'd be breaking my nuts for about $800 a week. It was for Yanke in ON but surely there isn't that big a difference in MB/SK is there.

So what is the crack with Yanke, is it a good firm or not

Ray

yanke is not a bad company, they have a few strange ideas theres not alot of difference in the big firms.
as for wages i take home on average $2,000 a fortnight but i run pretty hard as a team.
i,ve finished my team time and i,m going over to singal fleet.
this doing 2 years of team is new it used to be 1 year.
the more you put in the more you get out its up to you it's not hard for a team to cover 1,000 plus a day so the money is there to earnt.
get back to us if i can help you out in any way, and there is no difference in where you live we all get the same per mile, the only difference is the cost of living winnipeg property prices are a lot less than calgary good luck to those going there
