Default driving license

Hi My husband has been working for the past 6 months in Vancouver. His contract ends on March 31st, when he first moved there he changed his licence for a Canadian one which means he can't get his original UK licence back.

He will be moving to New Zealand for a year long contract in May, so does not have a current UK address. We are planning to do a road trip for 3 weeks in the US before he goes as a late honeymoon. The problem is he will not have a valid driving licence as Canada have gotten rid of his UK one to issue him with a temporary BC one.

Is there anyway we can get his temporary BC licence extended beyond his work visa contract to cover an extra few weeks? If so, will this be valid for him to hire a car and drive in USA (California, Utah, Nevada)?

We can not get his UK licence renewed in time, even if using a family address as he has an EU passport so it would take 3 weeks to arrive, we only have 2 weeks form today!

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

THANK YOU!
