Default Driving in Alberta on IEC visa

Hey guys, i'm in Grande Prairie at the moment. I never learnt to drive formally in the UK so I have no licence, but i've quickly realised how restrictive it can be here without a car. I wondered if there was any way I can get some kind of licence? I'm planning on applying for PR (spousal sponsorship) if that makes any difference whatsoever...

As long as you're legally in Alberta, they don't really care in what category, but it takes awhile to complete the GDL programme, have a look at the Alberta transport website.
