"Drivers Abstract"
Have sen on a few job advertisements 'provide drivers abstract'.
Can anyone advise what this is ? Is it a formal document, something to do with the province driving licence ?
How would someone from the UK provide an abstract ?
Cheers,
Rich.

Re: "Drivers Abstract"
This is copied and pasted from the Manitoba licensing page (where I've been hovering all morning trying to figure it out!)... but it gives you an idea of what the employers are looking for:
--------
What is shown in my driver's record?
The driver record contains your name, address, driver licence number, date of birth, sex, height, eye color, licence effective date, licence expiry date, class, authorized instruction, air brakes, motorcycle instruction expiry date, probationary expiry date, conditions effective and expiry date (if applicable), licence status, test year, licence class restrictions (if any), at-fault accidents, convictions, active and expired suspensions, disqualifications and prohibitions.
Authorized instruction allows a learner to drive a vehicle of a designated class.
The Conditions Addendum displays conditions which are imposed on the driver's licence.
Reported traffic convictions and accidents are on your driver record for at least five years. Reported Criminal Code convictions remain on your driver record for at least 10 years.
---------
Edited to add url - http://www.mpi.mb.ca/english/DriverL...DLFAQ.html#QR1

Cheers, I'm surprised they don't just ask for a copy of the driving licence - would make it easier surely ?
Rich.

Drivers abstracts are often asked from potential employers if you are required to drive as part of your employment. Employers can see what convictions and points you have on your license over the past 3 years...however some provinces may differ on the time frame. You would need to go to your local drivers license office and ask them how you get your drivers abstract. There may be other ways to get this...but I'm not sure.
Not sure about the UK drivers license...perhaps someone else can answer that for you.
P.S. Getting a drivers abstract is not a big deal unless you have been a very naughty driver

Guys Maybe I am wrong BUT !!!!!
In the UK if you have the new style photo type license there is a second part to it. It is called the paper license. In it you will find your name and licence number etc. it also lists your categories for driving and the important part, any endorsements, ie speeding, drink driving etc.
I guess you could call this the UK's version of a drivers abstract
Any other suggestions guys
Eddie

In BC, you usually cannot use one that is more than a month old for most jobs involving driving jobs, or where a "clear" driving abstract is requested. It also costs you to get one, of course. It is not a copy of your license - at all. It is an entirely separate document.
