Dog and customs question
I have read many threads that state when you pick your dog up from cargo (she is a large dog so can't go excess baggage) you then need to go back to the main airport to see customs and then go back to cargo to finally get your dog. Lots of faffing around but needs must if that's what needs doing...
But my question is our dog is arriving a day later than us, to Vancouver, and she will be on the goods to follow list which will be stamped by customs so why would we need to go to customs again as surely as she is stamped on the goods to follow list you would think that would be enough?
Just wondering

Re: Dog and customs question
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of un-informed people on this subject, both official and non official.
Our dog was on the same plane as us. Once we got through customs, he was waiting for us at "Oversized baggage". No-one was with him, no paperwork to sign, no health check, and no admin fee.
Just a large hairy dog thrashing his tail against the crate as he was wagging it so hard, lol.
This was Toronto Pierson by the way, so you would have expected all the red tape.
But everyone's experiences will be different, and as you will find in Canada soon enough, there is no "normal" lol.

Hopefully someone may be able to answer, as was just curious

Re: Dog and customs question
Certainly agree everyone's experiences are different, and we are yet to go through this, will certainly post after the event to let all know what happens
We are using Airpets, some might say expensive but we are arriving a day before the dog does and I would not want to put this on a relative in the UK to handle, plus they are experts at this so its very much for peace of mind and also pleased that they are so near to Heathrow.
Not sure which airline she will be flying with yet as its too soon, maybe BA or Virgin as according to there website they are one of there preferred partners by the looks of it?
Just wondered about the customs stamp thing, I guess I will not know until we pick her up and see what happens? Will of course just go with the flow and do what needs to be done so we can all be reunited

Re: Dog and customs question
Which airport are you flying into?
Our dog came 3 days later as cargo to Vancouver.
We just had to go to cargo area- off road on way into the airport and pick him up.
We didn't need to go back to customs.

Re: Dog and customs question
If the dog is not arriving on the same flight then the dog is declared when you arrive. The airline will give you a manifest once the dog arrives say next day or 2 days later. You take the manifest along with paperwork to the Customs Office. If they are ok with everything they will stamp the manifest and tell you to go back to the cargo office. You show the cargo office the stamped manifest pick up your dog thats it.
If the dog arrives on the same flight then dependent on which airport you may have to go to cargo then back to customs then back to cargo.
My airport all dogs arrive as oversized so no trip to cargo

Re: Dog and customs question
In Vancouver there is a customs office in the cargo area so no need to go back to the airport to get your documents stamped.

Re: Dog and customs question
We had large dogs as cargo at Vancouver - on same flight . . but, ,
we landed - did all the immi stuff - got the dogs stuff stamped and paid their fee . . .we then had to go to cargo - Miller Road - other side of airport - show then the paperwork and collect dogs!
So assume you will pay when you land and then next day pop over to cargo with paper work and collect mutts
