Re: DOES ANYBODY KNOW
The short answer is no. There is no such thing as a definitive waiting time...there is basically a broad spread and much will depend on your particular application.
The other problem is that the current waiting times you can estimate from peoples time lines and the cic data, dont actually tell you anything about how fast they are currently processing applications, or how many people are backup up in the queue in front of you.
What most of the consultants are saying now is that without a job offer, you are probably looking at 5 years or so minimum if you apply right now, and that the longer you wait before applying, the longer you will wait for an assessment as its getting worse and worse. There is some danger that those applying now might not even be assessed to the current application criteria in the end as the system might be revamped in the mean time.

I understand that CIC don't like to discuss queues or wait times. The preferred term is "inventory".

Hi, I know that the waiting times are pretty grim at the moment but have you thought abour coming over here on a work permit? That can only take a couple of months and your permanent residents application will be 'fast-tracked'. We came over on a work permit March '06 and got our permanent resisdence status on April 01'07. Good luck!
