Ok, so I am trying to work my way through the "departure to do list" and would like further clarification on the medical records/doctors notes bit. Do we HAVE To get a full copy of all our doctors notes to take out or is this just a precaution. My doctor nearly had heart attack today when I asked for them at the sheer time it would take to photocopy 30odd years of notes! (small practice in highlands of scotland so most of notes still on paper until more recently!!
)
Please can someone help with this?

Your call - do you have anything a new doctor ought to know? My medical history is completely unremarkable, so I brought nothing.
For the kid I brought his immunisation record from his red "child health" book.

Our new doctors office here just asked for past medical history for their records. If you can remember dates of major medical problems, that may be helpful to them
If not, a print out is handy to have. I did this in the UK and they charged me a nominal fee for the priveledge.
DO take your childrens immunisation records though. They need this, and I know here in AB my children had to have additional vaccinations to those done in the UK. They just require more here for some reason.

Our doc gave us a each a one-page document listing any ops or hospital procedures carried out. Our kids also got their immunisations listed - I think is definitely important.
Our Drs surgery never charged us a penny either which I was very surprised at.

We just got a copy of the front screen. To be honest i don't think you should need more than that.

We needed to show a copy of my daughter's immunisation record to her new school here. They were very particular about that.

You can get your doctor to give you a summary of your medical history which will cost - can't remember how much - but as others have said it can be useful depending on your medical history.
Our doctor has got these in their files now, but have seen no evidence that he has even looked at them.
Warmly,
Frank

hi, i have got an application from my hospital at medical records for my notes as i have had 4 kids but be warned if u go direct through your hospital it will cost £50 per set of notes. i decided just to get my notes as my children havent been in hospital or have any treatment for anything ongoing. the hospital did tell me that when we get to Canada they can request the notes from the UK if admitted to a hospital there and wont cost a penny.

We got ours, just to be on the safe side and it cost us £18 each for the records.
We found the records did not include everything anyway. Most of mine was up to date and went back to my childhood, but my husbands did not have information relating to a broken arm he had eight months previous and only went back about ten years.
I have been to the doctors and had gynecological stuff done since being here and other than verbal info, none were interested in seeing my history. So, probably not worth the effort unless you have conditions for which info is important.
