Re: Direct Buy
The Marketplace show was on again last night about DB on CBC news channel. Hilarious!
Yes, no cooling off period, sign now or never come back again. Great tactics. They did some price comparisons and yes it was cheaper on some items but when you factor in the 5K membership, not worth it! |
Re: Direct Buy
Can someone tell me, anybody, why there is an actual advertisement for this outfit, direct buy, on this very thread? Ironic, even contradictory, considering the mostly negative feedback!

It's all a cyberworld clever ploy - they track key words and then da-na! an advert that may or may not be related to the discussion topic pops up.

Re: Direct Buy
I saved about $1500 on my TV with Direct Buy and $300 on a washing machine.
My advice is to join only if you are furnishing a new home or planning to do lots of renovation. Not everything is cheaper than elsewhere btw but the majority is. So if you won't recoup your membership fees and make some savings at least, avoid. |
Re: Direct Buy
Another great thread here. Great for people making the move etc so thanks boys and girls

Re: Direct Buy
COSTCO is also a much more cost effective (and low pressure) way to source some furniture and consumer electronics. There is no direct-buy in Newfoundland but I would never, ever sign up for something that involved such a large upfront commitment or that degree of sales pressure.

Costco only sell old model when it comes to electronics whereas DirectBuy sell the latest models.
I doubt that that's true but, in what situation does it matter that your TV or Ipod is last week's model? |

For TVs, things like flashlighting, clouding, 120Hz/240Hz etc... might not ring a bell to you but for a lot of people, they do. Your use of a TV is not the same as someone else's. As for iPod, would you buy a 1st gen iPod at Costco and pay the same price as an iPod Touch, for example? You just listen to music, other people use apps, surf the web, check email on the latest iPods. You want to stay retro, it's your choice. |

Well you can check for yourself whether it is true or not.

What do other people do with it? |

Forgive me for giving a cluck whether my electronics are this years or last years models. Performance vs price, is the key, not having the latest and greatest unless you are an early-adopter in marketing speak.
