Direct Buy

Anyone use them? Is it worth it? How much is the membership these days?

No - but am occasionally interested in how it all works.

Made contact with them not long after we had arrived in Canada - and they would only set up an appointment for mr and mrs m - which got my back up immediately I'm afraid (I'm as capable of spending our money as we are :p )- and also no kids - which was impossible as we didn't know anyone here!

That kind of put me off really and we never went back.

We were interested until we looked into it, then watched the Marketplace report. Prudent shopping and Costco works for me.

Hi Louise - don't know if you have found Surplus Freight but we have bought some great stuff from them in Calgary at pretty good prices. I can vouch for their beds!! They do have a branch in Halifax ..... J :)

We just googled Direct Buy - that was enough to put us off, anything that requires money up front makes us run a mile.

We have been in here and to be honest a lot of the stuff is really overpriced..crap.lol. And the sales men follow you around the whole time - which brings out the evil side of me as I hate being pestered whilst shopping!

LOL We must have hit them at a good time - our beds are fantastic and they were a really good price. My OH is pretty good in stores like that - whenever he walks into a store like The Brick (which is very, very, rare .. ;)) he immediately looks for a salesman and instructs them that he is only there to look and he will find them if he has a question :D

It can be a bit embarrassing but it seems to work - he uses a very loud "outside" voice :p

J :)

LOL can I borrow him the next time I go furniture shopping - I always end up being the one talking to the salesman, usually about how they know someone in London and gosh isn't it always foggy there...lol

My bf is a member and I've saved a fortune on kitting out my basement with a plasma TV, hometheatre system and sofas, etc. If you are coming over and will be furnishing a house from scratch or even building a home, then the membership is totally worth it. You can buy just about anything through Direct Buy and make a saving. You do seem to save more on the higher end stuff though. Just as an example, I saw a couple of sofas I was interested in at Ashley Furniture - the 3-seater sofa was $800 plus tax and the loveseat $600 plus tax. I got them both, tak in for $800 through DB.

If you only have one or two things to buy, then the membership isn't worth it.
