Canadians do pretty much everything in their cars except pay attention to their driving. What's this thing with driving with a bloody dog on your lap?!!!

[QUOTE=xxdb;11548606]Canadians are unfunny people
I don't know how to respond to that, I feel sort of passive/agressive.

Absolutely.

It's not the lack of knowledge that's surprising it's the question coming from someone you'd expect to know better.

If, for example, you're talking to a lawyer, surely you wouldn't expect "are there trains in England?"

And why would a group of women give themselves that name? :eek:

Maybe he's thinking, are there freight trains in England? Come to think of it, I haven't seen any. Most freight is transported by road.

That would be reassuring. Sadly the question came following my reference to catching a train when I lived there.

And presumably you don't look like a hobo? ;)

A family member of mine from Canada (and therefore my compatriot), somewhat advanced in years, very successful in the world of business, a little intolerant of the needs of First Nations, asked while visiting me in Paris if in Europe they also had problems with native peoples.

I didn’t know where to begin.

I'm sure plenty of British Asians would say that they have constant problems with native peoples :-)

Lack of knowledge is just as bad in the UK.

I remember once a girl was helping me find a guide to Eastern Europe in a bookstore in London, after a while she said (I kid you not) "here's a book on Asia, is Asia in Eastern Europe?".

As stated in the examples, though, it's not just the lack of knowledge so much as it's lack in people you'd think would know better.

A worker in a book store doesn't have to be an expert on the content of books. Now if your example was of a geography teacher or the Asian correspondent of a newspaper....:lol:
