Came from England to the colonies in the 18th century according to Wiki. You got potatoes for your chips from the Americas, and tobacco. There's been a bit of back and forth.

Really ! In all the years I've lived in Canada I have yet to come across anyone who drinks that stuff. I thought it was the preferred tipple of British football "fans". It must be a local thing to where you are.

I used to buy Growers Cider in summer but it gave me a headache so I stopped. I have the occasional Big Rock cider and don't mind it.

I live with a cider drinker and so I know Strongbow and Magners are everywhere, as Bud Lite and Coors Lite are everywhere. However, as with beer, there are no end of other choices. In Vancouver, Sea Cider was highly thought of.
I never really got cider until 3 months ago. It kind of makes sense in the summer because you can load it with ice so you are a little more hydrated and it lasts longer if it is a long day of drinking also reducing your bill. Unlike beer the ice doesn't detach the flavour to much and reduces the sweetness which is a good thing. Also cider obviously has no gluten so a bit of a fad drink now too. |
