Ahhh… that feels better…. no offense meant to all the good (yeah, right! ) Jetta drivers.
Oy, we aren't all bad

Err, the UK? No VAT on used motors as far as I recall in the motherland.

In Canada the government takes its chunk on the new vehicle purchase, and then every time its resold too. I expect quite often it adds up to more then 100% of the initial purchase value.

Well, you are actually leaving the land of 'no tax on second hand cars'.

My tax rule - you have to pay it, and it will be a lot

Can someone explain what a Jetta is? I've never understood the VW line. Is it a Bora (and is that just a Golf with a boot?), or are there Jettas in the UK and I should have been paying more attention?

Yes Biiiiink - Jetta is Golf with Trunk/Boot. Don't know if they were/are in the YUK, but my Auntie in Germany drove one, when they first came out.

Surely the VW.ca website will explain the range to anyone who cares.

I know what they look like but apart from the badge on the back I wouldn't know if that's a Bora, a Passat, and having just looked at VW's UK page it could also be a Eos or a Phaeton, whatever those might be! Too much crossover in their range, I never understood Golf Estates (those were Passats when I was a kid before the "new" Passat") or Polo Estates either...

I did have a Lupo to learn to drive in but fell out of love with it when I discovered it would only take 2 Tesco bags in the boot

See, I dont know what the hell a Bora or a Lupo is...here it was Golf (Jetta if it had a Boot, Beatle if it was cute shaped, GTi if souped up some), Passat (wagon favoured by salesmen) Tourag (SUV) and Pheaton (only ever sold three...lot of money for a VW), and then they dropped the Phaeton. Not enough market here for small expensive euro cars, so I guess we never saw the Bora or Lupo?

Just to confuse matters a Jetta (golf with a saloon/sedan boot/trunk) was called a Bora in the UK, but before that I think it was called Vento. VW UK have now sensibly, just started to call it a Jetta on the latest model.

sorry

The Lupo is dead. Found that out when I tried to flog mine, apparently that was a reason I should accept a whole chunk less for it :scared: It was a 4 seater car but you really wouldn't have wanted to sit in the back. Surprisingly spacious upfront. Great to park on city streets but rubbish for putting anything more than a packet of Twiglets in the boot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Lupo <---- Ah, this has a map of the VW models - Edit: the Bora was the Jetta. Mystery solved!

So the Lupo was what I remember as a Polo and the Polo is somewhere between that and a Golf? Of course, just when you think you have a grip on this, the new canadian Golf wont be a Golf, it will be a Rabbit.

STOP SNIGGERING AT THE BACK!
