Hello everyone,

Is it through that most people find jobs through "networking" or "knowing someone" in Canada?

How did you find your first job in Canada?

Thanks,
Louise

networking is a big part of finding a good job in some circles. From what i remember both in the UK and here, it is not what you know but who you know.

A network is more than business associates, social contacts can also help.

I got offered a job at Heathrow, taking a flight out to Vancouver. I mentioned to a guy I would quite like to live in Canada, he offered me a job, a few weeks later I had PR and was in Canada.

Did anyone of you have difficulties finding work when you arrived in Canada?

How long did it take you to find work (weeks/months)?

Hi Liouse, as you've recently started a thread about job hunting I've merged this thread with that one, that way we don't have two current threads on the same topic floating about, otherwise it just gets a tad confusing, and hard to keep up with

To be frank I think job hunting in any country is the same. It's a combination, of networking and putting yourself out there.

Contacting companies you think your skills and talents would be well suited, applying for advertised jobs, joining groups on LinkedIn and updating your LinkedIn profile can also help.

I think Louise might be a goldfish. I'm no sure what line of work there is out there for them, but aren't the decent sushi bars in Vancouver?

Oo me too. You can chop that up and add to stir fries. Works well

Just a little cooking tip there.

Me too! I used to get it in HK along with pickled shallots at my favourite seafood restaurant, so it was a bonus to see they have it Japanese restaurants when I got here. The seaweed salad is really yummy too.

Hi Louise,

I think Sue's answer hits the nail on the head, so to speak.

Good luck, and remember attitude is king apparently.
