Dawson Creek

Does anybody live or have any information on Dawson Creek BC. I believe that it is 130km east of Grand Praire. On google earth it looks ok, seems to have most amenities.

Regards

It is a desolate hole, down the road from the worst hole in Northern BC, Fort St. John. It has no amenities whatsoever, I don't know what site you are looking at!

I would rely more on going there than Google Earth. Not somewhere I would choose to live.

I lived in Fort St. John for a year and a half in the mid 1970's and although it has its problems like any other place it is not the hellhole the quoted poster makes it out to be.

Perhaps it's gone downhill. Meth hadn't beeen invented in the 70s.

What has Meth got to do with amenities or the lack thereof?

As I read the comment it's Dawson Creek that has no amenities. Fort St. John may have amenities but is apparently the worst hell hole in Northern BC. Since it's usually meth and unemployment that makes rural places really unpleasant I suggest that conditions in FSJ may be worse now than prior to the invention of the drug.

I do wonder about the qualifier "in Northern BC". Are there worse places in Southern BC?

You know what I really don't give a shit.

I don't have the energy at the moment to discus this any further.

Blimey. I revised "invented yet" to "invented in Canada yet".

1 persons hole is another persons Heaven

Here's the site Here's the site

stats

If you want to live in a small town of a round 10,000 you can't expect to have the world class amenities. food beer and space are all a lot people need.

Totally depends on your individual requirements.

Seems that most don't like it too much - but what are you comparing it to ? Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver. By choice it seems to be a little better from the info I have collected on it compared to McMurry. They have the shops, schools, Church and enough restraurants to get bye. I know it is not going to be anything like the major cities but surely people there are going to be just as friendly if you make the effort to fit in ?

Like Grah says as long as we have a decent education - preferably Catholic - for the kids and there is food and other things great. We don't use what is around us here much - although we do have the option of the cinema and good links to nearby cities.

Just be aware how isolated it is - you're an hour and a half from Grande Prairie, which in itself isn't a particularly large place. A population barely over 10,000 isn't going to support many shops beyond the basics, and restaurants are going to be limited to fast food and a tea house I suspect.
