Cricket on TV
#1
Hey everyone
I sat here watching watching England against India and something dawned on me.....Do they show cricket on any of the sports channels in Canada?
We should be in Barrie by the end of the summer and obviously with England playing to retain the Ashes in Australia this winter I would love to be able to watch the games.
Are there also any Cricket clubs in the GTA?
Cheers

However I don't ever remember cricket being on television here in Canada.
It does appear that there is cricket played in southern Ontario and the Toronto area.

I just thought with there being a large ex-pat community that maybe they showed the big games etc?

I have met immigrants from India here in Calgary who have told me they access cricket coverage, but it's not through the regular cable channels. I seem to remember them saying they used satellite dishes or something.
A Google search reveals that in October 2005 the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) granted permission for the Asian Television Network (ATN) to carry a channel that would be called The Cricket Channel. However, I don't know what, if anything, has become of that.

To find out the television shows that are available to cable subscribers in Barrie, go to
http://www.zap2it.com
Once you're there, click on TV Listings.
You'll be asked to provide a postal code. Since you presumably don't have one yet, I suggest L4M 4T5, which is the postal code of Barrie's town hall.
Today (April 3rd) you can look up TV Listings from April 2nd to April 15th. If you wish, you can narrow the search to sports.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely check it out.

As a bit of a cricket fan myself I'm afraid that since being here I've not seen too much on the TV. I think there's a half hour review show that's shown on one of the channels but I can't remember which one and I have noted that some one day matches have been available on a pay-per-view option but a pretty expensive option at that!

Thanks for that. Can you get BBC world service on the radio over there? I suppose they'll have Test Match Special on there. Take me back to being a kid. Which county do you follow over here?

Are you an expatriate Lancastrian by chance?

Hi Drew,
Being an Essex lad I naturally follow the fortunes of Essex and England of course!
I listened to the ashes series on Radio 4 which was streamed online but the BBC seem to be a bit choosy about what sport they stream outside of the UK. So the ashes wasn't a problem but the one day series taking place in India at the moment is limited to UK streaming. I think it's to do with the rights to broadcast.

If that is the case it's a real bummer. I love the Ashes in Australia. The ultimate Test series. Maybe we should postpone our move until after Christmas!!!! Just hope they have it o the world service. Just need a short wae radio now. Lol.
As you may have gathered from my location. I follow Lancashire, and England of course. We are back in division 1 this year and you know I think it may be our year!! Sure you'll disagree.
Take care
Drew
