anyways I have to agree with R2D2 that forums like this are addictive, its nice talking to someone who has been through this before, even if for us it was Canada to Germany rather than UK to Canada. The attitude here is a nice change form britboard.de where complaining is the norm (of which I'm guilty as well :D ) If you've ever seen the show no going back you kinda of understand what givemeabreak is talking about, innumerable Brits spend a few days in the Sun decide to sell everything and move to warmer climate's with hardly a second thought regarding what they will do and then wonder why it didn't work out like it does on TV. I also started another post on why and how did you move here, I love hearing stories like that THM (its not for nothing that I choose that name). BTW is Tim Hortons is huge in Ontario but what about the ROC (rest of the Canada) |

Note that I would have preferred to go into an actual coffee shop but since TH's has the most misleading, one might say blantantly dishonest, signage of any firm, I only go into their stores when I can see them. The drive thru is visible from the highway, the signposted off highway store could be in Quebec, if it exists at all. |

Tim's generated a staggering $1.2 billion US in revenue for its American owner, Wendy's International." The rest of the article is here. Not being a huge fan of coffee at the best of times I don't quite understand the popularity but who knows? As for the doughnuts well I used to like them but haven't had more than a few in the last ten years.:( Cheers Steve |

I do like TH coffee, but no more than, say, Blenz or Second Cup. Hate Starbucks. But, I have come to the conclusion that this Tim Horton's thing is like a mass hysteria, and people line up for coffee just because it's there and they think they are expected to. They block intersections, for heaven's sake, for the a damned cup of coffee. I never go through a drive-thru, it's much simpler and quicker to park, go inside and get the coffee. I watch some of these people drive out onto the main road with a coffee in one hand, cell phone in the other, and driving with an elbow. As for the level of staff intelligence - here's a funny story. Last year, in the middle of blueberry season, and living in blueberry-farming country, I had a blueberry muffin at Tim's that had not one blueberry in it. So I complained. And I was told there's a shortage of blueberries this year. I was so astounded I was speechless. Mind you, this is the same TH that the ice machine is always "down" so they can't make an ice-cap. Or is always out of strawberries when strawberry tarts are the feature. |

well firstly I must apologise for my first posts on this site, I was very rude, very forceful, very pig-headed and when I look back on it I'm quite ashamed. I think I was definately bored and antagonistic. Bored with waiting for so long for the PR to come through and antagonistic because I wanted to be in Canada and would quite happily replace anyone who wasn't enjoying it or taking it for granted. So sorry everyone for getting up your backs as someone quite rightly said "you are living it and have first hand experience of life in Canada as an ex pat". Mine is all theory at the moment. In case anyone is interested our state of play is this: had a job offer in Washington DC but after going out there again last week we turned that down for various reasons but main one being he would hardly be at home at all and the whole idea of this move is for a better quality of family life because contrary to someone else's view I adore my husband and we are very, very close and still very much in love. The children are suffering with his absences and I can no longer sleep with a 7 year old in my bed every night crying because he's missing his dad. My husband has however been offered a fabulous job with a large satellite company based in Ottawa he is over there in 2 weeks time to finalise negotiations and sign on the dotted line this will then (I hope) help fast track our PR visa that has been in for 22 months now. So for curiosity's sake there you go thats what has happened to us and I hope you all forgive me for my very angry rants and hopefully \I shan't be one of those people that gives it 6 months and then returns to UK else I shall never be able to show my face again cheers xxx |

I am glad to hear things are starting to work out for you and thanks for the update. Good luck! |

That's awfully sizist - the PC police will be informed and you will be taken to a dark place and beaten to within an inch of your life by recently immigrated hairy Lithuanian 18 stone retired lesbians who cannot speak English and who arrived here by way of sponsorship by a Federal Government official. Bad man. Rich. |

No worries, and good luck in Canada... Having a job beforehand is a great way to make it work, sure you'll last longer than 6 months ;-)
