Me too. I thought the ad was carefully worded (assuming the translation was accurate) to make it clear it was about illegal immigration and people trafficking not legal migrants. I would rather hope that anyone who'd been through the hassle and expense of moving to Canada legally might be against those things as well.

More to the point, some of the rightist loons on here (and more importantly the Conservatives) would have you believe that the opposition parties support human trafficking.
Who is responsible for the laws allowing the Sri Lankan's in? Did they get a fee boat pass from the captain? Or perhaps they paid someone to smuggle them. In Quebec, many illegal immigrants arrive from Haiti and old French African colonies. |

They run a version of this commercial in BC as well. It really is gutter politics. However carefully they choose the words is it still designed to appeal to the base fears of a certain demographic. It is factually incorrect as well. It portrays the opposition leaders as helping these people "jump the queue." There never has been and, I sincerely hope, never will be a queue for refugees at Canada's borders. |

It's not an anti immigration ad. It's anti human trafficking and illegal immigration, I don't see much wrong with that.
