I know you are right but there are other boards who are a lot kinder to us newbies

There are some good books out there but it ends up being quite costly sometimes it's worth checking the library they usually have an aviation section.

I don't know any of the other pilot forums AVCanada is the only one I've ever used but not frequently.

saw a thread about this on AvCanada boards.

I have a love/hate relationship wiht Porter.
they are awesome to fly with , great from a passengers point of view and the Island airport is great for the economy

As a Private pilot ( to be!) I'm not thrilled witht he way they are slowly squeezing General Aviation out of CYTZ. One flight school has lready fallen victim to the squeeze, I'm not sure how much longer the other can fight them off.

I'm not sure that Jets out of the island is such a good idea either. Don't get me wrong I'm very pro airport but there are a lot of people who will use this as a reason to attempt to take the Island airport back to the ghost town days.

Having expreienced bad wake tubulence behind a Q400 , I'm not sure I'd like to expreince it from a heavier jet!

Have been tryng to find the exact rules behind operating JEts from CYTZ , I was under impression , not allowed , but can't find if this is a bylaw , gentlemens agreement or what?

Would also be interested in seeing the takeoff poerformance figures for those new jets. Porter and Skyservice already push it to the limits with the current fleet at CYTZ

Are you taking flying lessons? Because you never mentioned it before.

OH flew Porter from Toronto to Ottawa and said they were great. Good service! It would be nice if there was a bit more competition.

this is the thread running on AvCanada at the moment

I'm abit puzzled by it. As has been pointed pout the jets need over 4400ft of runway to land and CYTZ is 3998 ft. The speculation that they might be running these gets out of City seems a bit moot to me

Is this the time to state the only thing smaller than a pilots ego is usually the plane they fly or their dick

BTW Ive met some decent pilots opposed to those who think they are God;)

Re: Come on Porter Airlines.

So according to the CBC they will be looking to extend the runway at the island.

"The airline will seek permission to fly the long-range jets out of the island airport, where the runway would need to be extended by 168 metres at each end. "

Nothing is for cetain though as they still need to get permission.

from a business point of view I'm finding this a bit weird.
they can't fly these jets withiut a) permission and b) extending the runway

neither of which are a given at the moment.

it just seems an odd way to make a business decision , very high risk.

Still not sure what i feel about this , while I'm not too bothered about them running the quieter jets , the runway lengthening bothers me a lot.

the current plans don't call for an increase in the Marine Exclusion zone , which is there for a VERY good reason , high masted boats and low flying aircraft = bad combination!

Now lets not start an East/West war  To me it just means if approved another carrier flying from my location to Toronto.
They will face challenges and no guarantees about extending the Island airport so the sale of the planes might not even go ahead.
Ive always wondered why no company has ever used Winnipeg as their HQ and hub. Its the centre of Canada basically so the distances are almost equal East and West.
