I hope this is the announcement Porter Airlines are making tomorrow
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/...ombardier.html
Im all for it more competition and more choice if they buy these jets however they will have some negotiating to do as they wont be able to use the Billy Bishop airport.
Ive never flown them but have heard more positive than negative.
Be interesting to see how in particular Air Canada reacts to this as opposed to Westjet as AC got into a pissing match with them when they first started up.
Im not saying it will mean cheaper air fares but if they do drop then I wont be complaining.

saw a thread about this on AvCanada boards.
I have a love/hate relationship wiht Porter.
they are awesome to fly with , great from a passengers point of view and the Island airport is great for the economy
As a Private pilot ( to be!) I'm not thrilled witht he way they are slowly squeezing General Aviation out of CYTZ. One flight school has lready fallen victim to the squeeze, I'm not sure how much longer the other can fight them off.
I'm not sure that Jets out of the island is such a good idea either. Don't get me wrong I'm very pro airport but there are a lot of people who will use this as a reason to attempt to take the Island airport back to the ghost town days.
Having expreienced bad wake tubulence behind a Q400 , I'm not sure I'd like to expreince it from a heavier jet!
Have been tryng to find the exact rules behind operating JEts from CYTZ , I was under impression , not allowed , but can't find if this is a bylaw , gentlemens agreement or what?
Would also be interested in seeing the takeoff poerformance figures for those new jets. Porter and Skyservice already push it to the limits with the current fleet at CYTZ

They will end up flying out of pearson.
I'm not sure the on the figures exactly but if my memory serves me correct in good weather at full weight capacity they require a runway of +4,000ft and the largest on the island is 3,988ft.
I guess we will learn more in the upcoming months!
Edited: I've not been on AvCanada for a while are the forums still busy?

AvCanada is full of small people with big egos and is possibly one of the most hostile places on the planet if you are a student pilot

I thought "Come on Porter Airlines" was some new trendy sexually open marketing campaign.

Bugs me a little because I'm sure there is some great advice kicking around somewhere but every thread seems to degenerate into " everyone but me is wrong and a danger to mankind and shouldn't be let anywhere near an areoplane"

I would always advise to go see the senior members of your flight school and not the trainers themselves. The more experienced pilots generally have the best practical knowledge of what is truly meant in them.
But you're right people will argue profusely that they are right and other peoples definition is wrong even if they have no other proof, or practical evidence to back it up!

I wont complain if they can make a go of it, we need some more competition.

Oh I can accept that for interpreting the laws and regs and stuff but when it comes down to flying technique, that kind of stuff is a little harder to swallow.

The truth is behind the keyboard you have no idea who these people are how long they've been flying and whether they're good pilots or not. Stick to the people you know in real life that way at least you have an idea on their character!
It's always amusing when there's about 6 people chiming in that all the other pilots are wrong and their own technique is the only correct one!
