Yesterday morning it was -4C when I went to feed the chickens. Surprised by the heat, I left my coat and gloves on a log halfway down the hill.

In the car I commented to the OH, "it's a sad state when you come to think -4 is warm".

"It is warm for this godforsaken place" she replied, cheerily.

Was 9oc today. This morning walking on a frozen lake, this afternoon in fron of the house walking around in a t-shirt.

That hot sun sure feels good!

People forget that Canada is generally south - Montréal is the same latitude as Bordeaux which means nice hot sun and lots of light...

Absolutely crazy! There were locals out fishing in the middle so we assumed it safe enough. Plus the ice is usually weakest near the shore and it was pretty solid there.

Oooh I wouldn't make assumptions ... did you not hear of these "locals" who "should have known better"? http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/07/Ohi...ice/index.html :sneaky:

So what time of year is deemed reasonably safe to go out onto the ice?
