In the car I commented to the OH, "it's a sad state when you come to think -4 is warm". "It is warm for this godforsaken place" she replied, cheerily. |

No. No, we're not.
That hot sun sure feels good! People forget that Canada is generally south - Montréal is the same latitude as Bordeaux which means nice hot sun and lots of light... |

Absolutely crazy! There were locals out fishing in the middle so we assumed it safe enough.
Oooh I wouldn't make assumptions ... did you not hear of these "locals" who "should have known better"? http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/07/Ohi...ice/index.html :sneaky: |

probably depends where you are - in winnipeg, its probably just after christmas to end feb/early march
My original post was slightly tongue in cheek, as most likely there was a good layer of solid ice if people were ice fishing there .... but I was just saying, even the locals get it wrong sometimes, and just because you see someone else doing it, doesn't necessarily make it a safe thing to do! Edit: I found this How to Tell .... wiki article: http://www.wikihow.com/Know-When-Ice-is-Safe |
