Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
Hi,
Just go to You Tube and in the search box, type in the same things you put in your post...though change out the Arkwright one for "Open All Hours" as it returns more results. You'll find a collection of clips on each. http://www.youtube.com/ Don't know if you have a HMV in your area (haven't checked where you are) but here in Calgary, the HMV has a whole Brit section including many of the classic comedies, for purchase. Happy viewing. Eamonn & Janet. |

Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
Try Google, should give you link to where you can get hold of them.
As already mentioned, 'Arkwright the corner shop owner' was the late, great Ronnie Barker and the programme was 'Open All Hours'. I'm taking a stab at 'The Baldy Man' being the character Alf Garnett otherwise known as Warren Mitchell so the sitcom's would either be 'Til Death Us Do Part' or 'In Sickness and in Health'. Personally I'm amazed that you can remember the name of a second rate comedy like Mind Your Language but not the classic British comedy Open All Hours. Just googled 'the baldy man' and to my surprise it was actually a TV sitcom. You live and learn. Alf Garnett was much better though! |
Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
What about "Dinner Ladies"...
Surely the peak of the UK's comedy classics. Oh the wit. R. |
Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
The baldy man was orginally a character in a bbc comedy clip show "naked video" , it starred Gregor Fisher I believe.
I think the character was also used to advertise hamlet cigars. |

Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
For clever dialogue you can't beat Yes (Prime ) Minister.
The brilliant thing about it , no matter what the nationality of the person you show it to , they always claim that's exactly how their government works :) |
Re: CLASSIC ENGLISH COMEDY PROGRAMMES
Harry Enfield "Loads a money"
