citizenship.....current waiting time?

Hi
It looks like they were applying for a proof of citizenship through descent, rather than through the regular processing in Canada.

No sorry, I took the easy way out, I was entitled to Canadian citizenship from birth. I just had to register and wait for my certificate.
They take a similar process though and the waiting time advertised is similar.
It should infact take longer because everything had to go through CHC London and then on to Canada to be processed.
They still carry out all kinds of checks etc.. I just didn't have to have any kind of test or swearing in.

Any UK-born children of your own, or any planned in the future?

And the process is much simpler - for example, there are no security or character checks required.

You were in fact automatically a Canadian citizen. You were not applying for citizenship but instead for evidence of citizenship.

Waiting time for this kind of application is only 3 months:

Yes, you would be correct. No, I don't have any children, and at my age the thinking is along the lines of "God forbid I ever have any!!"
The processing time you're reffering to is for people applying from inside Canada. It's 6 - 8 months if applying from the UK at present.
I'm just pointing out that though it is an entirely seperate process, it took less than 1/4 of the advertised time to process.

Bear in mind that if you have children born in the UK (or somewhere else outside Canada), they will also be Canadian citizens by descent. However, as they would be second generation born overseas they would lose their Canadian citizenship at age 28 unless they apply for retention before then. (unless the other parent was born or naturalised in Canada).

Also bear in mind that the law might change between now and any children arriving. Keep in touch with developments in Canada and don't assume anything.

I prefer the health card and drivers license, they're much prettier than the UK equivelant (sp?)
