I've just picked up my daughter from school and I can't believe what has just happened.
The Deputy Head Teacher has just "had a word":curse: with me about moving to Canada. She reckons that moving a child to another country at such an early age - will disrupt her studies. What in the hell has it to do with her. It's not like my child is sitting exams - she's five, so surley this is the best time for her, especially because she is so young.
I am so angry, I've made an appointment to see the head teacher next week once shes back - but I am shocked that someone would think that I am not doing my best for my child.
Wait till Simon comes home.................................

My is 16 years old now, with learning disablities. We were told that he will never go to a mainstream school in England. We have lived in Vancouver for 6 years now, he has been going to a mainstream school since being over here. He teacher told me just yesterday, that he got the highest mark for Maths 10 in his school last year.
The Deputy head is jealousy of what you have achieved for your family, and is unable to do what you have done.
Just wave to her when you have England.

She probably forgot that your daughter is 5 years old (to think she is a teacher...she should know better!!). Kids can learn faster than adults in terms what the norms of culture and society are. Put an adult and a child in a language immersion program (with peers) and kids will learn better and faster.
Don't listen to her, I've got 9, 5 and 3 years old and I'm seeing an opportunity in moving permanently to Canada next year! Plus, as they say "mother knows best"!

My husband mentioned your post to me yesterday and I thought I might add my own experience.
I moved around the world a lot when I was a child, from country to country and continent to continent. My first move was at age 5 - and I can honestly say that it did not affect me at all! I can't even remember the move!
It does get harder at a later age - I found our second move (at age 11) a little more difficult - but even that did not disrupt my studies. It was only our third move (at age 15) that really affected me. It took me about a year to get over that one.
I think you are doing the right thing... moving now rather than later.

Thank you for all your replys.........................................I'm taking everything to heart alittle to much at the minute thanks to my parents (thats another thread). Nothing is putting me off Canada and we will be across there next year.
