CBSA recruiting info required...
Morning all....
After a couple of years in the employment wilderness, I am now considering applying to join the CBSA as they are currently recruiting. And having a military background I feel this could well be the job for me.
I do have a few questions though which I can't get answers to from the CBSA website and hope that somebody here may be able to answer.
1) Is my application likely to be hindered due to the fact that I am only PR and not a Canadian citizen?
2) it says on the website that once you've passed all the selection criteria and made it through to the training phase, that you're not paid a 'salary' for the duration of training (18 weeks) but instead receive an 'allowance'. Does anyone know what this allowance is.
18 weeks is a long time with no reasonable salary...particularly with a hungry family of 3 kids to feed!
3) One of the employment conditions is that you must be prepared to accept a posting anywhere within Canada upon completion of training.
Is this literally how it is, or do they take into account your geographical location, spouses job, kids, schools etc?
Any info regarding the above would be greatly appreciated, and indeed any other useful info regarding the whole recruiting/training process.
Cheers....

Although they are recruiting (how actively is another question entirely) , I have two friends who have applied. They have both completed the 'Preliminery' application phase...but will be some time before they hear more they have been told.....In other words, it may be a lengthy process....
P.S. As far as I am aware, you need Citizenship.

From the self assessment questionnaire (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/job-emplo...ae-eng.html#a1)
"Are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and at least 18 years old?"
"If you answered "YES" to all of the above questions, then the CBSA is looking for you."
So looks like PR would do.

Priority is given to Canadian citizens however PRs can apply but you will go to the bottom of any eligible list.
The allowance at the College is approx $125 per week
Allowance
During the in-residence phase of training, candidates will receive an allowance, accommodations and meals. They are also entitled to one return travel trip (from their home residence to the CBSA Main Campus and back).
There will be NO salary paid until candidates successfully complete all the required assessment and accept an offer of employment.
You can be sent anywhere in Canada on completion of the training. I hear rural Saskatchewan is lovely in winter.

Hi
Think Pleasant Camp, Beaver Creek Yukon. Especially Beaver Creek if you like living in a trailer.
