Post Moving from the UK to Edmonton

Hi All,
My Husband has just moved out to Edmonton from the UK to start his new job.
My 6 year old son and I will be joining him next month (June 2013)

1. Can anyone advise of any nice family community areas on the outskirts of Edmonton?
My Husband was taken around Sherwood Park last week which seems like an option if we can find a property which will accept a dog.

2. I have also just seen a house in The Hamptons on the web is this a nice area?

Our main concern is that our son currently goes to a small school with ages 4-7 in one buildings and ages 7-11 in the adjacent building where as all of the schools in Edmonton seem soooo much bigger.

3. Are there any smallish Elementary schools in nice areas that wont take him too much out of his comfort zone?

Thanks in advance for any help

When i moved to Edmonton my son was the same age and had been at a village primary school...then went to a city elementary school..he settled in very quickly...size matters nought he will get to mix with a whole bunch of new and different children which in the long run will be a huge benefit to him...also he is 6 and will adapt and make new friends very easily...can be different if he was 13.

Thank you for your reply - it's good to hear of other people who have been through it. Ethan is so shy but we are hoping that this experience will help improve his confidence levels and like you say it is better to do at this age than when they are older.
Out of curiosity can you recommend any good Elementary Schools?

We found Sherwood Park to be too far out of things. The Hamptons is nice and not far from the West End.

Good luck finding a place that accepts dogs,it took me a couple of weeks to find a dog friendly place.
I am renting a room in Bonnie Doon, but get the keys to the house next week,my family arrive next week with my dog too,so it's gonna be a bit of a rush for me to get things done as I work 9am-7pm weekdays, and halfdays on Saturdays.
I really like Edmonton, been here 5 weeks now and made some right good mates that have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, and to help me get sorted out.
Hope you like Ed as much as I do!

I'm moving to Edmonton 2nd July to work for Flynn as a glazier.
Never been to Canada. Partner and children coming 3 months after me, if I stay, if I like it, or if I get kept on after 3 month probation period
