Mrs AX rang me yesterday to tell me that Winston (Alpha male cat) had killed a rabbit the same size as him and presented it at the door. This morning he's done it again apparently. She said' I didn't even know we had rabbits round here' to which I replied 'We don't anymore'. I believe these are wild bunnies as opposed to domesticated. Hope so anywhere or I suspect we're going to get a visit from an irate neighbour.
Clemmie, our other cat who is a petite, skittish one year old has yet to make her first kill. We wait with anticipation......

My cat Doby is interested in anything he can get his paws into, including seven goldfish he brought to our doorstep alive over the past few months ! Apparently the neighbours pond is empty now !!
It took him more than two years to make his first kill though ! so you might wait a while. Once they get the hang of it they never stop.

Ours are catching snakes at the moment. They dont seem to really know what to do with them though.

They have all kinds of varieties in all kinds of sizes. But, oh my, the price. I know someone who works evenings and weekends at their stand in a pet warehouse and she gave me some 20% off coupons so I wandered in to a store to see what was available. I found that even if I went with Royal Canin's down market brand, Technical? Technisomething, $20 and my coupon would only buy a bag of food the same weight as the cat. The smallest bag of Royal Canin kitten food costs the same as the 50lb bag of Nutro Natural Choice dog food we buy (not for the cats). I returned the coupons.

That's why we buy it in big 10kg bags ! It is much more cost effective as it works out at half the "price per kilo" of the small packs. We also get the 6th bag free in our local pet store. - Cheaper than coupons !

Of course, if you pay for the extra for primo cat food and it helps avoid a couple of trips to the vet, then its basically paid for itself hasnt it
We have three cats (used to be 4), annual checkups (allegedly supposed to be biannual now they are seniors)...not cheap.
We used to buy the Hills stuff, only available at vets around here. We are trying to find a good cheap alternative...tried the eukanuba senior something....also not cheap, but one of them is allergic to something in it.
Any recommendations for good quality, better priced dry food for senior cats?

I think in our case, at least in summer, food provided to the cats is such a minor portion of their diet as not to be much of a factor.

Hi,
My cat has just taken the long flight over here and so far so good....apart from him snubbing nearly every dish of food I put down for him other than cooked cod which he used to get in the UK as a rare treat.
He was very quiet when he arrived and because he had to be starved for 24 hrs before taking the flight I expected he would be mega hungry. Anyways, he's now been here 3 days and he's not really eating any of the food I bought for him.
In the UK, he used to eat Whiskas seafood selection in jelly and also felix pouches in jelly. The cat food I've found here so far seems to be in 'juice' or gravy or is a pate. All of which he doesn't like very much and they also give him the squits!
So....anyways, my question is have any of you found any decent cat food in jelly that is close to Whiskas?
If so, what is it and where can I buy it?
Thanks

Treat time is 11 pm before I retire and from 10:30 pm they chorus their reminder for me. How do they know the time?

My moggies used to eat the Whiskers of which you speak. They revolted at the local version, but have eventually settled for the Purina Fancy Feast range of various "flavours". They have also become addicted to Kitty Greens Treats.

That's crazy. As I write this, my cat is meowing away at me!!! Having just had some more cod, I thought he might be a bit more settled but oh no he isn't! He's used to living on just 2 floors so the basement is confusing him somewhat....we have the tv there and our old sofas so I thought he'd like it but when he comes down he wanders around meowing and won't settle til I go upstairs with him. Where do you get the purina fancy feat stuff? I even went the local vets tonight asking if they had any food in jelly and all they had was pate!!!

Our cats like Friskies tinned cat food. They love it. They have dried food too, we used to get one for cats with sensitive skins from the pet shop. (Dude, aka BE cat, has allergies and gets a scabby skin otherwise) We recently changed the dried food to Hills t/d which you can only get at the vets. Its pricey but its supposed to be good for their teeth and Dude scabs.
We tried not giving them a tin of Friskies a day but the older one went on hunger strike and refused to eat anything at all for three days. We caved in and they are back on the friskies. They particularly like a horrid smelling one called turkey and cheese, Dude liked it so much that he ate it too fast and then threw it all back up. He carried on eating, Mog left the room in disgust.
You can tell why we call him Dude.

Thanks for all the information. I think I'll take a trip out today in search of cat food!!!
I have bought some Friskies fish flavoured tinned food, but it is pate and he won't go within a foot of his bowl when that's down!
