Car Insurance (Toronto)
Hello everyone!!
Just a quick question about car insurance.
I'm wondering what I would end up paying in Canada for insurance per year. I know it's more than what I would pay here, but I'm a little worried about it.
So, for argument's sake, lets say I wanted to drive a new Ford Focus. 2.o Litre engine. I'm 22, male, have 4 years driving experiance in the UK and have held a full G license since July this year in Toronto.
No claims/tickets/convictions etc...
The only reason I'm asking instead of actually checking is that I can't seem to find much in the way of online insurance companies, and of the ones I did find, they were quoting close to $9.5K!!!
Any advice about where to look & if there are any web sites similar to confused.com etc... would be fantastic...
Thanks,
Andy

The $9.5K might not be that far out of line.
Hopefully someone can give you better information but be prepared for the worst.

Unfortunately you have just stated that you are in the highest risk category possible for insurance purposes. "Male under 25, single, minimal experience."
The $9.5K might not be that far out of line.
Hopefully someone can give you better information but be prepared for the worst.

Plus I have 4 years driving experiance in the UK, and am a certified police driver...
Plus when I come over to live, I'll most likely be joining the OPP...
Are there any places that offer reductions for police drivers?
I only pay £860 in the UK for a mini cooper, surely it can't be that much more for a flippin Ford Focus?!!!

Hi it is that much. We have 14 years no claims (UK) none of which is recognised, and were quoted over $3000 in Canada from the cheapest car insurer we could find.
Best of luck!

hi
im in a similar position, female 24 single with only 2 years uk experience. I believe after the first couple of years canadian experience you can get quite a big decrease.
i was wondering if anyone knew if it would be cheaper to be added onto a relatives insurance as named, to build up experience before trying to get my own insurance?

Andthen
Car insurance in Ontario and other parts of Canada is high.
I read last year someone your age would expect to pay $8- $8.5K in Toronto. So What you have been quoted could be the going rate for a 22 yr old.
In 1997 went from £95/yr Fully Comp for a Ford Escort in the UK to $3600/yr for another Escort in Calgary. My wife was 31 then and had 9 yrs NCD record in the UK. After 8 year in Canada we got out insurance down to $1200/yr.
We return to the UK in 2005 and managed to insure a similar sized/value car for £163/yr fully comp.
You will have trouble to get the insurance premiums your used to in the UK in Toronto.

Try Belair insurance, they saved me quite a lot when I changed insurers.
Good luck.
