Default car insurance changes 2011

Hi there, i took people's advice and got a fairly decent quote through johnsons, but now they say they don't deal with the insurance company that offer discounts to uk drivers. I am desperate to get a car, but any other company quoted me at least $7000 and through johnsons it was $3500. Please please help me.

As for Johnsons - blimey that was unfortunate, I bought my insurance through them only about 2 weeks ago and they took all of my no claims into account (although they wanted lots of emails/faxs from my insurance in the UK).

Yes - some of the quotes I got were scary, State Farm quoted me originally $7500 and even told me not to go through with them. Not tried TD though, but definitley worth a try.

every single insurance company i rang quoted me over $6500 including all the ones mentioned above. Only johnsons was cheaper - but now they say they don't deal with the insurance company anymore. It's all very odd as the woman at johnsons doesn't even know who she got the quote from - thinks it was coachman but when i contacted coachman brokers they haven't got a clue about what i mention. Can i have the number of broker from johnsons that you got insured with?

We went with State Farm Insurance - we too were getting the $6000+ quotes from everyone. State Farm did not take our UK experience into account but did give us insurance for just less than $4000 for 2 drivers, and 2 cars. Not exactly a 'deal' but better than others. Good luck.

Aviva certainly took my UK driving history into account when I got my first insurance here in Canada. I think it has more to do with your Broker than anything else. I did have to go around several local insurance companies in town - only 2 said they could take into account previous UK history. My quotes ranged from $950 to $2700 back in 2007.
