Hi all, myself and family have just received our PR visas. We are flying out to Halifax to get them validated at the end of April. I was wondering if anyone on here has any idea of what, for want of a better word, the Project Management 'scene' is like in Nova Scotia. My career up to now has been in the defense aerospace field, but I am looking to get away from that. Any thoughts and help on the PM field would be most appreciated.
We haven't actually visited Nova Scotia before either! When we first started the emmigration process we were looking at BC, but have since come around to the thought that there is not enough work aorund other than the expensive areas of Vancouver or Kelowna. So any thoughts would be great.

Do you have your PMP designation ? That is the preffered qualification in Canada it would seem

Hi
Can't help directly but have a look here, www.jobbank.gc.ca, you should be able to search location and job type....the results should be a number of current job postings. This should give you a feel for what they are looking for in terms of quals etc.
Another thing to help you understand your work type is "The working in Canada Tool".....you can search your NOC code and it will give you a break down of that job type.....also if you are lucky it might list companies who hire in that field...see link below:
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/...6/welcome.aspx
Once you are here permanently I would suggest (as a back up plan) pursuing the things you would need to work in government/defence.....so if the civvy side does not work then you will have some of the pre-requisites for defence/government jobs. You might face defence employers who dont understand the Canada system actually allows for the hiring of foreign qualified people provided they have a verifiable home/work background....so having the process completed/or started might get you over the first hurdle (I face this very often).
I am a engineer trying to break into the defence market in Ottawa and you can probably see on my other posts that I am very much on top of the pre-requisites but it takes time to get them sorted.

Thanks very much for the posts so far. I am take my PMP in April and am already PRINCE2 Practitioner certified and ITIL V3 Foundation. I have looked quite a lot on the job sites. But you know how it is always better when you hear from 'real' people, on the ground.

I may be looking for a PM with ITIL for the Okanagan Valley if you would be interested? You would be employed out of the Vancouver office but the project is fairly long so as long as you would be potentially willing to return to Vancouver in 18 months...PM me if you are interested.
