hi, we coming to halifax from the uk, wanting to hire a car from the airport, but we only have a uk visa debit card, a few companies say they do not accept debit cards, does anyone know of a car hire thats accepts uk debit card, seen on google many people say they will except uk as it recognises it as a credit card there but not sure if this true please any help be great x

We used a Visa debit card with Enterprise. We pre-booked online.

hi thanks for your reply, did you fly into halifax airport nova scotia, as i have spoken to 3 hires places and they say they do not except visa debit, worried about getting there and not able to get a car, when did you do this ????? sorry for being a pest. not sure wether to book online then present the card or book directly with them ??????

I booked mine online and was so easy to sort once at Halifax airport, didn't take long at all to get car.

Try booking online through expedia or the rental company you want website.

booking online is not the problem i can do that but they say when we collect car they need a credit card this is what the hire company say, but people have said they have used there uk debit cards??????? its ok in alberta or bc but this is nova scotia ????

Just get your credit card provider to ensure that your credit card is valid for use in Canada.

they think it's a credit card as it has (or mine did)a visa logo on it my canadian ones don't have anything just plane looking. But its a big gamble if you don't get a car.When are you arriving make sure you book a car they seem to run out here in the summer

Why not get a UK credit card ? You'll save yourself a lot of worry. If you qualify for a "gold" card or similar it will also cover the collision damage insurance and that can be almost as much as the car rental. It's worth the annual fee if there is one.

Visa debit cards are still new to Canada- only one or two banks offer them here.
If it shows the Visa logo, it should work.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

We booked on line and flew directly into Halifax. It was May last year. We used the card online and just collected the car from the actual airport (also very useful for drop off). We just chose one from the Enterprise website and we had no problems. They have an office at the airport car park.

Yes. When we got there they asked to see the card that we paid with and that was that. Have you had chance to look at the Enterprise website? They were really good and it was really handy being able to get it from the airport and drop it off there.

Just realised that this wasn't very clear. When I say 'yes' I mean that they didn't ask for acredit card but the card we paid with, which was a Visa debit card.
