Hi,
Can anybody please tell me the cost of running a 2nd hand car in Alberta.
Obviously the price and gas aside, just the mandatory yearly fees.
Registration costs? Can insurance be paid monthly? MOT? Thanks in advance

At a wild stab, you will likely range from $800 a year to $3500 a year.

DD driving for just over a year pays $1200 in insurance, (2003 chev malibu) car tax cost s i think about $90 pa, but more the 1st time as you have to buy the plate, no mot, sometimes insurance will ask for an inspection on an older car, insurance can be paid in instalments for an extra charge. Be aware that second hand cars will be more expensive here than in the uk. Search vehicle registries for more info.

My first registration for my truck was $170 and my bike was $130, the renewals came through last week and they're $85 and $65 respectively...the registration renews based on your surname initial, so if you register a car half way through the year, the price is pro-rated to when your renewal would be.
new windscreen every year will run you about $150
Decline windscreen insurance, it's just not worth it
switching tires between winter and summer (if you're into that sort of thing) will probably cost about $40-50 if you have mounted tires, more if you have loose tires. Obviously not including the cost of the tires themselves
A lot of cities have by-laws preventing you from washing your car with soap in the street/your drive so the soapy water doesn't go down the drains...so depending on your preference, factor in $10/month for car washes. I pop to the jet wash and do the windows, mirrors, lights and plate every 10 days or so in the winter
Using your block heater in the winter does use a fair amount of electricity, so get it set on a timer rather than just having it on all night and wasting money...it only needs a couple of hours before you start the engine.
