Default Canadian job offer

Hi All,

I have a permanent job offer and contract in Alberta which I have signed.
My question is if my UK employer starts to try and drag out my working notice period. Is there a time limit on me taken up the job in Alberta.

Does it depend on the specific company or is there sum employment laws which covers it.

Obviously the job offer cant be kept open indefinitely.

Pete

In Canada, up to the employer. Employment legislation does not cover this. Unless as a contract states otherwise, the employer could pull the plug anytime. Once you are on payroll as an employee, different provinces have slightly different rules.

In the UK http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...riod-of-notice

Thanks Aviator,

Thoughts as much.

Am not in any position to negotiate.

That said I cant complain I have been offered the job the time scale is what it is.

Certainly wont stop me coming over.

Chance of a lifetime.

Pete.

Are they bringing you over on a the LMO/TWP route? If yes, then there may be a time limit to activate the TWP. Doesn't stop you coming over activating it then immediately going back to sort out things in UK and returning.

I thought slavery was dead. You give your notice. work it, and walk out the door, I somehow doubt that s/he will chase you to Canada.

Yes I gave notice and am serving it, out of respect, but it's unlikely they can force you and if you are on good terms, it's usually a negotiable aspect too?
