Default Canada Tax (BC)

I'm filing my 2010 taxes late (I know!)

I was on a Bunac visa and worked in BC from Jan - Sep 2010

I'm trying to work out my taxes owed or taxes to be refunded

When I did this for 2009 I was living in Ontario and seem to remember I was able to fill in how much money I spent on rent and it was deducted - can I do this for BC, as I can't seem to do it through the software

Or...as I'm no longer a resident in Canada am I entitled to any extra portion of taxes previously paid back?

Hope you can help.

Many thanks

It is not province specific. If you run a business out of your home you can deduct an appropriate portion of your rent as a business expense. If you were required by your contract of employment (and can prove it) to rent in a remote location. otherwise, no, you can't deduct rent for your home.

Are you sure the Ontario rent thing was not for one of the benefits you can get for low income people who rent? This year it is part of the Trilium benefit.
