Most of us have to work for a living to pay the mortgage, car payments, massive insurance costs etc etc..............Seriously, Where in NS do you plan to go and what do you plan to do work wise? (Assuming you want to do something to pass the day). The two are linked as it the ability to have a rewarding job (financially or spiritually) to your state of happiness anywhere imho.

My wife is a Nurse Practitioner and intends to continue her career. Not sure what I want to do yet. I work in IT Sales at the moment and im definately not doing that. Either start a business up or buy one I think. Something steady, quiet and with NO SUITS or meetings!
NS we really like the Wolfville/Kentville area and have friends in north Halifax. The whole Annapolis valley is very nice, mind you, so is most of NS IMO. I liked Frederickton up in NB but Helen wasnt keen due to the distance from an International Airport and the fact that she speaks no French whatsoever.

I would imagine that, so long as he can get over the canadian experience, lack of holidays, distance from family, dealing with bureaucracy, high motor insurance, harsh weather, lack of employment rights issues he'll be fine
I'm just getting the above in before the other "doom and gloomers" do - yes I appreciate it is useful to get a balanced view but my experience of these threads seems to be that they quickly descend into the "don't do it, you'll regret it for the rest of your life, go to Australia, New Zealand, Mars" or "life here is unimaginably perfect" types

I pay $1800 for two cars with maximum canadian driving credit in Ontario, and thats after shopping around and getting multiple vehicle renewal and home insurance reduction too. Thats fully comp though.
Dont even want to think about the roof!!! We will probably just add 20k to the mortgage and put a lifetime tin roof on.
Even for all the negatives I still like living here, but if people ask specifically for the negatives...then I'll happy to oblige
Whether I would put my life on hold for 5 years to get here though is another question altogether, I'm really not so sure, especially trying to get work in a regulated profession where you will probably have to take a job below your current responsibilitiy level to get a foot in the door at first. No pain no gain perhaps?

Lol I think its healthy to hear the doomers and gloomers, if after all that you still want to go, well, that says a lot eh. Thats the point of the thread really. Instead of pushing blindly on singing LALALALALALA and sniffing the flowers I wanted to hear the other side, the bloke who is walking along in the dirt avoiding the dog sh1t.
As for rising costs and salaries not increasing, isnt that the same anywhere?
I mean, the cost of living in the UK now is atrocious. I have to fill the car up with my eyes closed so I dont have a cardiac and I darent even open the Gas Bill, it should have an 18 rating.

Not sure if there is anything else, she looked into that bit and just told me what she found tbh.

Cracks me up that someone asks for the negatives, and then when they get replies (from someone who likes living here) you get branded as a nay sayer by others! Reminds me of Jack Nicholson in "a few good men"!

For my part Im looking for the negatives and appreciate your posts. I asked for them on purpose quite clearly as its all too easy to think the 'grass is greener'.
I didnt expect it to be easy (although I didnt expect it to take this flipping long) but I am nervous (understatement) and as pleasurable as it is to ignore any potential negatives I would rather hear what people have experienced.
So far nothing puts me off, you think Canada is expensive, jeez, u cant take a dump in the Uk without getting your wallet out these days. I got charged £8.50 for a double Bells and Ginger the other night in a hotel, it wasnt a city centre either, outskirts of St Albans. And its not even bl00dy malt! Im paying £1.05 for V Power Unleaded as well and what do they spend it on? Landrovers and Helicopters that dont work in the sand. Nice move Tony, you clot!
Sorry ranting there, err, where was I, oh yeah, thanks, appreciate all posts, after all, the thread is to solicit negative feedback isnt it.
