WTF? In my 7 years living in Canada and many times visiting, I've never had a single speeding ticket. In my 14 years living in the US and many times visiting, I've had 3 speeding tickets total (1 each in MD, PA and NY).

Iv'e had one speeding ticket in 36 years driving in the US. Cop didn't yell or raise his voice at all. I didn't even get out of my car. Never known anyone who was berated for a simple infraction.

I do most of my Canadian driving in southern Ontario and probably keep it around 120kph - just 20kph over the speed limit! Meanwhile the natives are flying past me left and right. What do you have to be doing to get pulled over? Does an Ontario plate get you extra credit or something?

I suspect speeding in a Beetle Convertible has something to do with it.....

It's been a good year so far, just one speeding ticket, that one in Louisiana. Walking to work has really made a difference to the cost of operating the car.

I lived in Indiana for 3 years in the US and got stopped 10 times in that time. I never got a ticket at all as I always showed my UK license (and my US one when I got any hire car in the UK...) - even though the car was registered and insured in my name

Everytime the officer who stopped me was courteous and friendly and just sent me on my way.

Yeah my wife pulled that one when we lived in Canada. She had an Ontario license but showed the cop her UK license when she got pulled over for speeding in a rental in Niagara Falls, ON. The cop just didn't want to deal with it and let her off with a warning.

Sadly not, time constraints were such that we had to fly down and rent a car.

Holy Crap! I never got 1 in England with 15 years driving then I come to Canada and get 1 after being here 2 years! Cost me $300.00! I can't be getting one of those too often!

I regularly drive from NOLA airport to Lafayette, LA which is about 120 miles across the bayou. Best progress I made on that drive was in a rented Crown Vic in a nondescript-might-be-a-cop-car colour. The ruse was rather let down when other drivers got close enough to see the Florida plates at which point they assumed I was a senior. A Dodge Charger on another occasion was also fun. The Dodge Journey, Toyota Corolla and VW Jetta, less so.

I pulled up at a motel in California in a Mecury Sable and they offered me the AARP discount. Quite how I came to be in a Sable escapes me now, I don't care for hardtop cars.

Canada's great, my 6 and 9 year old had an absolute blast at the local gun club youth open day on Saturday, shooting .22s and 20 gauge shot guns. Hundreds of kids there, all went home safe and sound.

Bit odd as a parent though... "come on kids, lets go throw some axes". It feels like encouraging them to run with scissors if you know what I mean.

Just do not do the same in Calgary, you would need to re-mortgage your house to cover the fines over here. Police cars and mobile speed cameras are on every corner. Speed fines are anything from $250!!! and up. And they can also find out how long you have been here so if you show them your UK licence you ll get another fine for not changing it within your time limit, which here is 3 months.
