Ok sorry for posting in the wrong section but I need some info on bringing your spouse to the U.K.
I'm a little worried about the requirement to show that we have somewhere to live, I currently rent a flat but the council tax is paid by my landlord so I'm not actually on the electoral roll and I saw on the ukvisas website supporting evidence section there was a mention of evidence from local government.
Anyone know exactly what evidence they require?
(My fiance/soon to be wife is canadian hence the posting in the canadian section!)

ok thanks, will do. Just looking at your sig, landed toronto 8th march....6 month gap between applying and visa being received. Was this a spouse visa for canada and did it really take that long?!

Yes it was and yes it did, but that is positively super speed compared to the immigration in the UK, took 64weeks for them to turn my wife down, who then returned to canada and was processed in 3weeks

I'm considering a vegas marriage rather than apply for a fiance visa for her to come here and then a spouse visa to stay. If I understood you right then the vegas option would be better as applying to the high commission in canada is quicker, correct?

I will say with regards to a marriage in Vegas make sure you get plenty of pictures if possible have family there, as they will expect plenty of proof that the marriage is a genuine one not a marriage of convienience. The more evidence that the relationship is a long term one the better. Keep any letters that you may have sent each other, photos of you together, evidence of joint friends etc...
The IND at croydon is to be totally truthful with you is bloody useless it may have got better than when i used it (9years ago). But if you can avoid using it i would.

You understood right we were married in the UK then waited 64weeks for them to turn her down. Having said that she had been in the UK on a tourist visa for a year (having left then returned to the UK after 6mths visa was up). We also made the mistake of involving our MP having not heard after such a long time. Then we still had to prove that that after having supported her for over a year in the UK (with her not being able to work in that time) that we still had $10,000 CAD in the bank to enable me to support her in the UK. How many people have got $10K in the bank at the best of times. A year after her getting back into the UK on the marriage visa from ottawa our MP wrote back to say that he had still not heard from the IND and did we still want him to persue the matter. The high commision in Ottawa were excellant though it was all done very easily and very quickly. They carried out a telephone interview with my wife and that was it.

After flying to toronto then to vegas to get married and paying the $1200 for the application i think there will be significantly less than $10k in my account!
Thanks for your help.
